This is a very difficult post to write. Having roller skated since I was a child and competed until 1998 it was a great dream to be able to own and operate one of the most beautiful roller rinks in the country. We are proud of the work we have done since purchasing the rink in 1992. Renovating constantly, installing new systems, keeping the skating floor in top condition, painting the outer space murals 38 feet on the end walls, installing a new museum cabinet, ticket area and skate counter made Orbit stand out among other facilities not to mention the wonderful light shows that the skaters really enjoy week after week.
We have decided to sell the building to new owners that will change the use of the facility. Once all the details have been finalized we will be happy to go into details. The cost of doing business in Cook County Illinois is just to high to sustain a facility of this size with roller skating.
The After School Club has been a great addition and community service to District 15 Palatine. There’s such a need for quality after school care and we are moving the Club next door to the Salt Creek Sports Center for April and May. The park district is also thinking about taking over this wonderful program to keep it going for years to come.
I just wanted everyone to have an opportunity to come skate at Orbit this last month, have birthday parties or family get togethers and create the memories that last a lifetime for their children. Our regular schedule continues through March 31, 2018 and we will be having a big final party the night of 3/31 during our evening session so stay tuned for details and we want to thank all our friends, customers, families and schools along with so many organizations that have used roller skating to raise funds, have outings and be part of the original Social Network.
