There's many types of
Roller Skating:

Adult Freestyle
Done on quad skates, this form of roller skating is best suited for
Rhythm and Blues music with sensual movements and artistic
interpretation. There is no set
steps
and skaters are recognized on creativity and innovativeness.
Clubs around the country adopt colors and dress in sync when
they travel from their home rinks to large parties held in
various cities each weekend. The Orbit hosts
Sherri's Skate
Productions over 4th of July weekend each year and we
see 1000 skaters that skate all night and party all day at
the Taste of
Chicago.
Jam Skating
New yet an old style of skating, jam skating is a
collection of many different
dance
and and sporting disciplines performed on roller skates. The
style of skating has it's roots in traditional roller disco,
but has grown to include the influences of break dancing,
artistic skating, gymnastics, and modern dance. Jamskate
team members must be well practiced in these different forms
and must have the ability to translate these movements onto
skates. The Orbit hosts
WSA Jam Skating Nationals each year the third weekend of
July. Our Jam Skate class on Fridays at 6pm teaches the
basics for $6.
Roller Derby
Roller Derby is back and growing fast. Ladies, got guts? Like
to get that
aggression out? Flat track and all girl, this sport is not
orchestrated and the
participants wear their bruises with
pride. This isn't a sport for sissies.
Windy City Rollers
started at the Orbit and has grown to become a multi-team
League. The Orbit has roller derby practice each Monday
night from 9-11pm for $6 and it is open to anyone wanting to
learn the sport.
Artistic Skating
Roller Figure Skating is a sport which blends strength,
precision
and elegant artistry into a performance that is judged on
both technical and artistic merits. Athletes compete in a
variety of disciplines including: freestyle, figures,
singles, dance and precision skating. Governed by
USA Roller Sports,
and supported by the United
States Olympic Committee, efforts continue to get this
sport into the Summer Olympics.
