At the Hub Roller Rink there were customers and then there were the REGULARS. Customers would show up a couple times a month, the regulars spent more time at the Hub than some of the employees.
There were different groups of regulars, those who showed up Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and enjoyed the dance program as well as skating in a less crowded environment, those who showed up on Friday and Saturday nights just hanging out, guys looking for girls and girls looking for guys, and then the matinee crowd, usually made up of families, although some parents did use the Roller Rink as baby sitters, where they dumped the kids at the door and picked them up a 5 pm. This turned out well for all concerned, the kids had fun, they were in good hands and the parents got a break..
Well I can't give you the names of all those folks who came and went, but they were known as, skinny Carol, spider, doc, sonny, Butch, Buzzy, etc...
Today, they probably are someone's Grandparents and wishing that their kids and grandkids could enjoy a HUB roller rink of their own. Tradition continues, as parents drop their kids off at Orbit on a weekend session and it gives them a few hours to go shopping, and spend quality time with their spouses.
Some of those Kid's have grown up and are nice enough to offer there recollections of the Hub so take a trip down......
